Parents' Involvement

We encourage parents to be involved in the activities and programs of Fort Hays State University. We encourage you to participate in events throughout the year and take advantage of opportunities to know faculty, staff and students at FHSU. The following suggestions may help you find ways to become involved.

  • Attend Tiger Friends and Family Day in the fall. This activity is an excellent way to learn more about our university and gives you the opportunity to meet your son's or daughter's friends and classroom professors. A brochure detailing Tigers Friends and Family Day will be sent to you during the fall semester. Please read the information and plan to join us for an exciting, fun-filled, and informational day on campus.
  • Attend FHSU events. The university prides itself in offering cultural, social, athletic, and educational programs and activities on its campus. Please check out the university's Web site at www.fhsu.edu/calendars/ or contact the University Relations Office at 785-628-4206 for current information.
  • Attend Homecoming Weekend at the university. Always one of the most popular activities at the FHSU, Homecoming weekend brings thousands of people to Hays. There is a golf tournament on Thursday of that weekend and on Friday, huge crowds enjoy Oktoberfest, a day of fun, reunions, music, and delicious German food. Homecoming day sees thousands of alumni, former students and friends of the university coming to campus and to the city of Hays for meetings, meals, a parade, reunions, and a football game. All of the events involve students, parents, alumni, and the entire Hays community.
  • Read the publication For Parents Only which we publish twice a year and mail to parents of full-time, on-campus students. This publication contains important information about campus events, feature stories about students and faculty and a calendar of upcoming activities.
  • For those of you who enjoy surfing the Internet, get a close-up and personal look at our university at www.fhsu.edu.
  • Above all, always feel free to contact appropriate faculty and staff if you have questions or concerns about the university or your student. If you do not know where to begin, write for help to Dr. Herbert Songer, Vice President for Student Affairs, Fort Hays State University, 600 Park Street, Hays, KS 67601-4099, call the Office of Student Affairs at (785) 628-4276 or e-mail the office at hsonger@fhsu.edu.
