Public Work and the
Academy: An Academic Administrator's Guide to Civic Engagement and
Service-Learning - (Mark Langseth and William M. Plater, Editors.
Anker Publishing, Bolton, MA, 2004 in collaboration with Campus Compact.
This guide is a comprehensive look at civic engagement in higher
education from the perspective of academic administrators. The book begins
with a
series of topical essays, followed by case
studies. This is a very thoughtful collection of essays by some of
the leading advocates in the country.
Everyday Politics: Reconnecting Citizens and Public Life (Harry Boyte.
The University of Pennsylvania Press. Philadelphia, PA. 2004). In
this book, Harry sets out to describe both the theory and practice
for his concept that politics must be about ordinary citizens with
different perspectives coming together to solve problems. I'll attach
both a review of the book and a discussion guide from Campus Compact.
