T. Rex
Visit the Sternberg Museum
and step back in time, to the Late Cretaceous, the end of the age
of dinosaurs. The central attraction exhibit life-sized walk-through
diorama from this long ago time.
During the Cretaceous time period, the mighty Tyrannosaurus rex hunted
in the western United States, along the shores of an inland sea. The
sea cut North America into two land masses. Kansas was underwater
for most of that time.
Baby
The
museum's walk-through exhibit features life-sized animated models
of some of the dinosaur life from the Late Cretaceous.
In this immersion experience, visitors are transported back in time,
complete with the sights and sounds.
Mosasaur
See Kansas
from 84 million years ago. Giant sea creatures swam the Cretaceous
seas, and hunted each other in the warm tropical water.
George Sternberg
Eventually,
the mud at the bottom of the sea formed the rocks now exposed over
much of western Kansas.
Whenever possible, the
Demonstration Laboratory is staffed with student and volunteer workers.
See fossil preparation and other tasks that are an on-going part of
the museum's research programs.
