The FHSU Department of Mathematics And Computer Science (MACS)
Welcome to the MACS Department Web site. Using the links in the naviagation bar at the left, you can access important information related to our department. For example, we currently are taking applications for an open position within the department. Information about this position can be found by selecting the "Position Openings" link to the left. Hopefully this version of our department Web site will provide a more consistent browsing experience with the core FHSU site.The MACS department has three degree programs available within the discipline of Mathematics: Traditional and Applied Mathematics, Mathematics Education, and Computer Science. might be surprised at the varied opportunities and the demand
for individuals with a strong background in mathematics.
The department also offers an undergraduate degree in applied
Computer Science with emphasis on
Software Engineering. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics,
computer scientists and database administrators are expected
to be among the fastest growing occupations through 2014.

degree with our departmen?
All of our classes are taught by experienced and dedicated
faculty members. Classes are generally small in size; a major
class is rarely over twenty-five students. Thus, students
are able to have individual attention and become well-acquainted

There have been excellent opportunities open to the students with degrees earned from our department in both mathematics and computer science. These opportunities appear likely to continue in at least the near future. In fact, Fort Hays State math and cs graduates have been employed by companies such as Boeing, Koch Industries, Halliburton Services, Conoco, AT&T Technologies, Bell Systems, U.S. Treasury, Educational Data Systems, Texas Instruments, insurance companies such as Security Benefit Group and State Farm, other large corporations, banks, and numerous elementary through college level schools (too numerous to mention individually). Other graduates have chosen to continue their education at various graduate schools across the country.
