E-Mail
Lifetime Use Policy
Because
electronic messaging has become a mainstay in our society, Fort
Hays State University now offers its current and former students
free lifetime e-mail accounts. All students who
enroll at FHSU are automatically issued a student Scatcat
e-mail account. An account that has been activated will continue
to be available even after a student is no longer enrolled.
Acceptable Use
Use of a Scatcat account implies an agreement to abide
by the FHSU Computing and Telecommunication Center’s Acceptable
Use of Computing Resources Policy.
Services Provided
The following e-mail will remain available on a lifetime basis:
university-supported Web-based e-mail access (such as TigerTracks WebMail),
POP3 and IMAP e-mail access, and e-mail forwarding. After one full
fall or spring semester of non-enrollment, other Scatcat
services that were provided during active enrollment (such as Web
pages, remote access to restricted library resources, telnet/shell
access, and login access to on-campus computer labs) are no longer
available.
Account Removal and
Reinstatement
Removal of an account may be requested at any time by contacting
the CTC HelpDesk and providing specific information. An account
may also be removed in response in violation(s) of the Acceptable
Use of Computing Resources Policy. A student can request
reinstatement of a discontinued Scatcat account at any
time. Please note that if an account is removed for any reason,
no files are retained. Therefore, if an account is reinstated, no
e-mail or other files can be restored.
Username Changes
The server portion of the e-mail address cannot be
changed; it will always be scatcat.fhsu.edu.
For more information about changing your Scatcat e-mail address
visit our TigerTracks Username Change Information page.
Space Limits and Recommendations
We recommend that everyone with a Scatcat account check
their e-mail at least once a month so they will
be informed of any maintenance, service, or policy changes that
may occur.
A 100 MB E-Mail Quota (Limit)
applies to ALL e-mail messages (and their attachments) residing on the server.
Once this quota has been reached, any new messages will be returned
undeliverable. To avoid reaching this quota, messages can be deleted
from the e-mail folders or transferred
to the local computer. We recommend removing unnecessary
messages regularly. When using POP3 settings in an e-mail
program (such as Outlook Express),
this can only be accomplished by configuring the
program to “remove messages from the server.”
A 100 MB Data Quota (Limit)
applies to the total amount of file space residing on the server
for actively enrolled student accounts. This includes all Web pages and any other personal files on the server.
Support
Support for
Scatcat accounts is provided
through the CTC HelpDesk. All instructions, policies, notices, or
other information will be posted on their Web site at
www.fhsu.edu/ctc/helpdesk/.
Because FHSU is unable to provide support for other e-mail systems,
we cannot assist with support issues, space restrictions, spam, or
other problems that can occur when using other e-mail providers. Therefore,
although forwarding service is available, we recommend accessing your
Scatcat account directly.
This document will be updated as needed
to reflect any policy changes.
