Mission
The mission of the education unit at Fort Hays State University is: "to prepare professionals for schools, business, and industry in a global society." This preparation is based on technical skills, knowledge acquired through the liberal arts and sciences, professional knowledge, and clinical experiences described by the Professional Educator model. Instructional programs of the unit are offered through four colleges and the Virtual College. All elementary and secondary programs leading to teacher licensure are coordinated through the College of Education and Technology.

The education unit at Fort Hays State University promotes the vision that: "Professional educators prepared at Fort Hays State University will have the knowledge, skills, and commitment to ensure excellence in teaching while actively investing in their own professional development."

Kansas Teachers of the Year - Team Visit Presentation
- We recently had the opportunity to host the 2008 Kansas Teacher of the Year team. Their presentation was very positive and encouraging, highlighting reasons to go into education and reasons to stay in the classroom. Andy Tinknell taped it for us and has provided the link above so that you can view it yourself or make it available for students who were unable to attend. Thank you for continuing their message. - Teresa Wiebe studied pre-med in college. Afterward, she raised three sons and helped support her family through a career in banking. She nurtured her love of science by working for a while in a nursing home and earning an EMT certificate, but she never became a health-care professional.
- GLOBE students at Felten Middle School in Hays, Kansas have been learning a lot about GLOBE's hands-on activities and international collaboration in space science. They have been focusing on CALIPSO (Cloud-Aerosol Lidar and Infrared pathfinder Satellite Observation), a satellite launched from Vandenberg Air Force Base in Lompoc, CA on 28 April 2006, a joint effort of NASA in the U.S. and CNES (the Centre National d'Etudes Spatiales) in France.
- When the second-grade class of Kathy Harper at Wilson Elementary School lined up to leave yesterday, Harper asked them what their new student teacher's name was. "Mrs. Blur..." said the students in unison before all the voices trailed off. "Ms. Blurton", Harper said. And she'll be back tomorrow.
