The Department of Biological Sciences has a long
tradition of excellence and offers a broad range of program options
that provide students with the flexibility to enter a variety of careers
in the areas of conservation, bio-medical fields, and secondary education.
Our alumni enjoy careers in biological sciences throughout the United
States and the world.
Our roster of alumni includes a former governor of Kansas. Two biology
faculty -- Lyman Wooster (1912-1928) and Gerald Tomanek (1947-1987)
-- served as presidents of FHSU. Albertson Hall is named in honor
of former department chair Fred Albertson, who served the university
and its students from 1918 to 1959.
This tradition of excellence continues today through our active faculty,
a complete renovation of Albertson Hall (completed spring 2001), the
opening of the new Sternberg Museum of Natural History (spring 1999),
and the opening of the Kansas Wetlands Education Center at Cheyenne
Bottoms Wildlife Area (spring 2009).
We encourage all prospective undergraduate and graduate students to
contact us to arrange a visit with our faculty and a tour of our facilities.
Suggestions for improvements to the Department of
Biological Sciences website are welcome.
