In
2000, Fort Hays State University embarked on a new and
exciting chapter in its century-long development as an academic
institution in the state of Kansas. Having received the support
of the Kansas Board of Regents, the University embraced a new model
of accreditation called the Academic Quality Improvement Program
(AQIP). The North Central Association (NCA) has allowed member institutions
to pursue a track which seeks to adopt the uiding principles of
continuous quality improvement as its guiding force. Fort Hays State
University has accepted this challenge.
In the years to come,
FHSU will evolve guided by the quality initiatives of its
individual units, faculty, staff and students. The process of integrating
people into a new culture of assessment, accountability and continuous
improvement is underway, and our results appear promising. Change
will occur both rapidly, and as part of the long-range strategic
plan of the institution.
On this site you should expect to find items like
our mission statement, goals and objectives, AQIP Systems Portfolio,
and other accreditation information. However, you will also find
some uniquely Fort Hays items, such as a posting board for discussion
of issues related to our efforts, minutes of relevant committee
meetings, faculty development issues, and other University quality
initiatives.
Perhaps most important, this year FHSU
moves forward in the AQIP process in completing its second systems
portfolio. As the University takes pause to reflect on the past
six years of quality improvement processes, it is critically important
that all stakeholders be involved in the process - from the President
to the students.
